Just change the resolution output of your WiiU (in settings) to 480p or 720p before botting up Wii mode to smooth out the rugged edges pixely madness. Is it better than breath of the wild? personally not at all. I just replayed Skyward Sword a week ago on my WiiU using my original Disc.
Better control options, less annoying tutorials/pop up messages, visually it's far nicer (the old wii version looks awful on modern tvs), autosaves, camera controls etc. Having tried the original version on wii just a few months ago I can definitely say this is hands down the best version of the game. Joycon drift is a big headache so I just couldn't handle playing with joycons. I also really appreciate that I can use a gamepad. The quality of life features make the experience noticeably better. The art style really holds up and this is such a great version of Zelda (the character I mean). With this new amiibo Link can go from the sky to the ground and back again in a fast. Skyward Sword was designed primarily around the 1:1 Motion+ controls, and as such you'll need a Wii Remote with either the Motion+ adapter or built in, and a Nunchuk. But now, with the release of Skyward Sword HD, Nintendo also released a new Zelda & Loftwing amiibo. Wii software cannot use Wii U peripherals, as it's actual Wii hardware running the games. I'm a few hours in and really enjoying the game though. The amiibo feature wasnt available until the Wii U, and when Skyward Sword was later made for this console, a Skyward Sword Link amiibo was also created. The changes already in place for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD are certainly beneficial, but a few more would not hurt. Unfortunately ports are a target for review bombing so the user score probably won't be that reliable as people who haven't played the game Unfortunately ports are a target for review bombing so the user score probably won't be that reliable as people who haven't played the game will just give it a 0.
